By William Shakespeare
Directed by Alison C. Vesely
“If you prick us, do we not bleed? If you tickle us do we not laugh? If you poison us do we not die? And if you wrong us shall we not revenge?”
Shakespeare’s most controversial play is a complex tale of hatred, love, revenge, and betrayal. Set in 16th C. Venice, this production will be the central element of a two-month long series of events that examine the Bard’s dark tale and the effect it has had not only on future dramas, but on all of society.
Please note that this is an outdoor performance. Enjoy Shakespeare under the stars!
“the play’s pungent mix of spite, vengeance, greed and gossip — as toxic as the waters of the Grand Canal — feels right at home in our own acrimonious and narcissistic era.” ★★★½ – Chicago Tribune
“Captivating! Radiant! Immensely engaging!” – WQNA Radio
“Never have I experienced a production that mines the humor in this controversial ‘comedy’ as well as Vesely’s well-informed and wisely cast production.”– Daily Herald
