THE JIGSAW BRIDE: A Frankenstein Story

A World Premiere by Joseph Zettelmaier

Directed by Hayley Rice

Featuring Artistic Associate Heather Chrisler

Previews October 13 – 15

October 16 – November 14, 2021

Running time: 2 hours with one intermission

From the pen of Joseph Zettelmaier, who brought you The Gravedigger and Dr. Seward’s Dracula, comes another eerie and suspenseful tale. 100 years after the death of Victor Frankenstein, noted scientist Maria von Moos decides to excavate a ruined castle deep in the Geneva woods. In her search to uncover one mad-man’s secrets, she makes a startling discovery that will take us from the Swiss Alps to Vystario’s Menagerie of the Macabre and deep into the very soul of humanity. Inspired by the work of Mary Shelley, The Jigsaw Bride continues the electrifying legend.

“Kudos to Hayley Rice, the director of The Jigsaw Bride, who sets the clear emotional temperature for this play. The actors give intense emotional performances contrasted with witty repartee and laugh-out-loud humor…The treat to this opening night was the twists and turns in this dramatic compelling tale dealing with moral dilemmas, philosophical debates over science versus nature, betrayals, and treachery.”
-Chicago Splash Magazine

“There’s much to recommend director Hayley Rice’s intensely well-acted, unfussy production… The impassioned performances by Abbott, Sipla and especially Chrisler invigorate the philosophical debates that make up Zettelmaier’s heady, chilling and decisively feminist tale.” ★ ★ ★ ½
-The Daily Herald

Masks are required at all times for patrons and visitors regardless of vaccination status.

Customers are requested not to come to the performance if they are feeling ill. We will be glad to reschedule your tickets.

Announcing the Retirement of Founding Executive Director David Rice & Ceasing Operations in 2023

Over two-and-a-half decades we have mounted over 80 productions, produced 14 world premieres, and 6 commissions. We have had more shows directed by women in the past 25 years than almost any other Equity theater in the Chicago area. We also led the way in opportunities for women designers, resulting in multiple Jeff Nominations and Awards for the many women who have worked here. Thank you all for your steadfast support through all these years. We will miss you!
